Ranch Dressing Themed Resturant to Open in St. Louis

Everyone in America loves ranch dressing, at least that is what Jim Hayden is hoping. Hayden will open an all-ranch dressing eatery in St. Louis at the end of this month. The restaurant, aptly named Twisted RAnCH, will add ranch flavorings to some of the most iconic dishes from around the world. They will also be serving up a plethora of in-house made ranch dressings, including a teriyaki take on the quintessential salad liquid.

Entrees will also get a healthy dose of the tangy salad dressing, and the bar will also have ranch dressing on tap. While ranch is certainly a perfectly acceptable choice for salads, whether or not it will translate to an entire menu remains to be seen. The eatery will be the first of its kind, but it does have plenty of predecessors in the food “themed” restaurant categories.

Guy Fieri, for example, opened a series of eateries called Johnny Garlic’s, YouTube had a video that a food establishment focused on infusing garlic in everything from its french fries to its steaks, and its desserts. The owner of the ranch-loving restaurant, is banking on nation’s fondness for the creamy salad dressing, and their love of good food, for the business’ success.

What Does it Mean to Officially Ban Trans Fat

Trans fat has been in the news for over a decade with scientists and food experts trying to decide how dangerous it really is for human consumption. Finally, the FDA announced that they declare it a threat to public health. Conscientious companies have already begun removing trans fats from their products, but the official deadline is June 2018.

New York placed a ban in 2006 followed by California in 2008, and since 2003 the Center for Disease Control and Prevention has found a decrease of usage up to 80 percent leaving 20 percent still including trans fats in their products.

Since 2006, trans fat has also been required to be listed on the labels of all foods, so it is still smart to check the labels when buying food. Food lovers at Boraie Development have learned that there are six foods are prime candidates for containing partially hydrogenated oils, the primary sources of trans fats.

1. Frozen pizza
2. Savory snacks such as crackers and microwave popcorn
3. Canned frosting
4. Packaged pie
5. Coffee creamer
6. Margarine

Trans fats became popular in the 1940s when people were concerned about saturated fats, but the steep drop in cholesterol since 2003 reveals how dangerous it is to consume trans fats. The FDA includes palm oil in the ban because of its similar properties especially the ability to clog arteries.

Pizza Hut’s new Hot Dog Stuffed Pizza

Starting June 18, Pizza Hut is serving their new hot-dog stuffed pizza in the U.S. Pizza Hut’s new pie will offer a crust that doubles as a hot dog. It has been around for eight years but not in the US. It was first offered in South Korea, then the UK and lastly to Canada. Now we can enjoy this new but odd treat. This news release was recently reported at

The Pizza comes with mustard or ketchup dribbled on the crust said Gravity4. Or served as a dipping sauce. The outside stuffed crust is not cheese but hot dogs circling the pie. This may become a big hit with the younger pizza lovers. It is perfect to serve after a ball game or birthday parties.

I will give it a try and I am sure it will be a hit with the kids. I’ll reserve my opinion until after my taste test. If its a hit in other countries it surly will be a hit here.

NBC Now Has A Sports Bar

By now almost everyone has heard of the grandiose ESPN bars that are all around the country, and now it seems that another TV station is making their own bar and grill. The NBC Bar and Grill is opening in Orlando, Florida right outside the Universal Studios resort near where my buddy Jaime Garcia Dias lives. According to an article found on reddit and written by, the sports bar will have over 100 beers available for customers to have and it will also kettle cook all of their food. This will make things interesting, as there also will be dozens of very large screen televisions for people to watch their favorite sporting events at. The ESPN bar which is in Anaheim right outside of the Disneyland Resort is always packed, no matter what day of the week it is or what time of year.

This could be good for NBC, because not only does it promote a place where people can gather to eat, drink, and watch sports, but it also makes their company look appealing and it is a great way to advertise too. For example, people who have a great experience at this bar may remember that next time they are flipping through channels on the television and are deciding which station to watch the latest game on. Way to go NBC, and next time I am in the Orlando area I will surely check out this new grill.

Chefs Are Banding Together to Take Striped Bass Off Menus

Overfishing has been a concern of environmentalists for decades, and they have targeted both consumers and fishermen to stop buying, selling, and eating fish that are in danger of becoming extinct as per the Skout app. This latest push to help save an endangered fish is coming from a somewhat unusual source, New York City chefs.

Chef Kerry Heffernan, whose most recent restaurant is Grand Banks is leading the movement to convince his fellow chefs to stop serving striped bass at their restaurants. Catches of the striped bass are down 85% by both recreational and commercial fisheries. Reproduction is also down significantly, putting this majestic creature in danger of becoming extinct if something is not done to preserve it. Heffernan says that he realized something needed to be done when he was able to win the Manhattan Cup, a New York City inshore catch-and-release fishing tournament with a relatively small 18-inch striped bass in the fly fishing devision. He has long been an advocate of conservation and decided it was time to do something about the fish.

Along with several other chefs in the New York area, including Tom Colicchio, Floyd Cardoz, Harold Dieterle, and Dave Pasternack, Heffernan has taken striped bass off his menu and has replaced it with similar fish that are in less danger of going extinct. He has also started a campaign to create awareness of the problem, and is using the hashtag #saveourstripers on social media.
